your business is not
advertising on the internet you are missing out on some of the least expensive,
most effective
advertising available. The Internet has seen surprising growth rates over the
last few years with no
end in site ! Let us show you how effective a tool it can really be.
How can a web site help my business?
Today's Internet allows people to find hotel accommodations,
plane tickets, concert tickets,movie
reviews, software and much more. Electronic commerce is not limited to computer
items;you can now
purchase books, CDs, magazine subscriptions, and even trade stocks online! More
and more
businesses are finding that a web site can really give their business a boost,
especially considering that
the newest members of the work force are people who have grownup using computers
and are being
taught to find information on the Internet.
The World Wide Web (WWW) has opened the door to a host
of businesses that wish to serve our
newest mass market. The Internet represents a new age in communication and information
gathering
for the average consumer and is also a resource that any business can, and should
use to decrease
costs while increasing competitiveness, expertise, and customer service. The
number of business web
sites has been growing at a tremendous rate and these sites are usedfor tasks
from basic public
relations and promotion to specific product information to technical support
to actual sales using
electronic commerce.
A recent survey found that 73% of Web users spend time
searching for information about a product
or service online before they make their purchase. Over half of these users
have used the web to
search for specific product information when deciding to buy.
The number of businesses, web sites, and commerce on
the Internet is increasing as is consumer
activity. Expect online commerce to gross $100 billion by the year 2000 and
the number of transactions
completed on the web is expected to account for 2/3 of the total purchases.
Who is on the Internet?
According to the latest demographic information available,
the average Internet user can be classified
as a well educated person working in the computer or education fields. Surveys
of current users of the
WWW found that the average age of WWW users is 33 years old (the average age
is increasing,) 64%
of Internet users have at least a college degree, and their average yearly household
income is $59,000.
They also are using the web more and more instead of television. The survey
found that 64% of web
users surf in lieu of watching TV at least once per week, and 36% of web users
surf instead of watching
TV once per day! This means that you can reach the cream of the target TV audiences
through the
Internet without having to purchase expensive TV time.
Buying habits
This new mass market is better educated and has more
discretionary income than the national average,
but are they buying anything online? The estimated online transactions for 1996
are $520 million
(that's 15% of all Web users) with sales of $6.6 billion projected for the year
2000. Features such as
secure server transactions, online credit card verification and new catalog
software are making
electronic commerce easier for even non-technical companies.
Satisfaction of Online Purchases
A new survey has found that 59% of consumers who purchased
items online are highly satisfied with
the service they received. 62% of purchasers intend to purchase more goods via
the Net in the future.
And 27% of those who have not purchased online indicated future intent to do
so. It was also noted
that online shoppers tend to buy from premium providers rather than value-based
providers. Finally
it was noted that two-thirds of the children of on-line shoppers are themselves
online.
Trends
The number of users on the Internet is increasing rapidly,
and is expected to more than quadruple by
the year 2000 with an average of 46 million American consumers, who will be
buying online, spending
an average of $350 each (which comes out to a $16 billion market). When you
consider that more
and more schools are gaining Internet access (27 states already have initiatives
for the new technology,)
and that these children are already becoming comfortable using the Internet
for research and socializing,
then you can see the great potential for growth for those companies that can
master this new medium now.
The Internet is showing rapid growth. As more and more
businesses and people come online, the
web will generate new sales revenues and evolve into a new playing field for
small businesses. Online
commerce will increase as consumers gain confidence in electronic commerce,
just like the previous
transitions from cash to checks to credit cards. The types of products and services
that can be sold
online will also shift as more women and older adults become more comfortable
with the new medium.
The market on the Internet, however, is always changing, so you will need to
know how to get the
information you need to keep you a lean and nimble business - easily able to
avoid the mistakes made
by large companies who fail to keep their finger on the pulse of this new market.
In 1999, there will
be 85 million US Adult users and 32 million Internet User Households !
